Ateneo de Naga High School Batch’85 in partnership with the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineer- Naga City chapter launched Project 1: Medical Mission, last April 3, 2005 (Sunday) at the Ateneo high school campus Pacol, Naga City, the first of its string of events in preparation for URULIAN 2010, silver anniversary of Batch ’85.

Medical mission theme was “to be men & women for others”, the key of the slated activity of Ateneo HS Batch ’85 project this year. The activity recipients were the urban poor community of Pacol and San Felipe, Naga City.

Dr. Sancho Tolentino and his wife Dr. Michelle Tolentino headed the medical team, with Dr. Reynaldo Caresosa, Dr. Manuel Bombita and Dr. Giovanni Zenarosa. 12 doctors attended the medical mission together with volunteer medical staffs from Bicol Medical Center, Ago Foundation Hospital and Naga City Hospital.

Medicines used in this project were donated by various drug companies and some 10,0000 worth of medicine courtesy of PICE.

US based batch mates send cash for the Medical Mission, T-shirts and for the printing of the said souvenir shirts.

Some 249 medical patients were served and the medical team circumcised 113 youth, ages 5-15 years old. The member alumni doctors of HS’85: Dr. Sancho Tolentino, Dr. Reynaldo Caresosa, Dr. Danilo Bombita, Dr. Giovanni Zenarosa, and Mr. Martin Mejia coordinated the assistance of the volunteer nurses and interns from Naga College Foundation.

Others who supported the activity were the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Naga Chapter, through their PICE president, Engr. Ric Jason Bagasbas, himself a member of HS’85. Heartfelt thanks to Fr. Joel E. Tabora, President of the Ateneo de Naga University, Mr. Gregorio Re. Abonal, high school principal, and Mr. Lino Chancoco, high school perfect, for the help in letting us use the venue and the facilities purposely for the project.

Members of the Batch ’85 who actively showed support are as follows: Engr. Don Santy, Engr. Tito Simando, Pedro Mallari, Arlan Alvarez, Caloy dela Torre, Jessiton Galicia, PO3 Rodel Maravilla, Rodolfo Velasco, Louie Chanco, Project coordinator, and Nelson Paz, bath president. Edgardo de la Cruz and Manuel Sabido, Jr. documented the affair as the videographer and photographer respectively.

Special thanks to the Barangay Council of Pacol, headed by Kgd. Jose Mari Mercado and the health workers who helped in the activity.
