Fr. Jack: 2005 Mayoral Awardee

Humble, having a deep sense of compassion and a true “man for others”- these are the main attributes why our beloved Fr. Jack Phelan was honored with the Distinguished Mayoral Award last June 17, 2005 at the Magdalena Hall of the Crown Hotel as part of the celebration of the 57th Charter Anniversary of Naga City.

A former U.S. soldier, Fr. Jack spent more than 40 years of dedicated service with the Ateneo de Naga. As a member of the Ateneo community, Fr. Jack has touched the lives of many students and faculty members through his various roles as a priest and as an educator.

This annual award is given to recognize the outstanding citizens of Naga City who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavor and bringing honor and pride to Naga.

Other Ateneans who were also given mayoral awards were- Mr. Jose Anselmo Cadiz (H/S 1974) and Mr. Gerard Gabriel Bordado (H/S 2005). Donna Casey L. Calara, a 9 year old child prodigy who was hailed as the National Champion in NAMCYA for piano competition, is the daughter of Mr. JR Calara (H/S 1993).

Fr. Michael Rooney, SJ accepted the prestigious award on Fr.Jack’s behalf.
